FORT EDWARD - Albert Gardner "Bob" Winney, 84, of Lower Oak Street, Fort
Edward, passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 28, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Thompson, N.Y., he was the son of the late Gardner and Elsie
(Cook) Winney.
Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, serving in both theatres of war, and
being honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Helen (Hoffay) on Nov. 6, 1965.
Bob worked at American Locomotive in Schenectady. From there, he owned and
operated the Agway Feed Stores in Gansevoort and Saratoga Springs. Bob worked for
a year or two logging in the woods in Warrensburg before working for Murphy Lincoln
Mercury selling cars in Glens Falls and Albany. Bob also worked with Bartholomew
Real Estate in Glens Falls and then at a paper mill in Greenwich, and upon closing,
started at Finch Pruyn Inc. in South Glens Falls, being employed there for 15 years.
Bob enjoyed reading, watching television, and loved debating politics with anyone
who was willing. He had a love for animals, especially horses and was the Animal
Control officer for the town of Fort Edward for several years during the late 1970s and
early 1980s.
For the past five years, Bob resided at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, suffering from
Alzheimer's disease. Although he was stricken from this horrible disease, he always
enjoyed visits from his family, especially his grandkids.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Laura Dwojakowski.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Helen Winney of Fort Edward; his son, Robert
Winney of Hudson Falls; his daughter, Amy Sherman of Hudson Falls; six
grandchildren: Zachary, Taylor, Alexis, Nicholas, Michael, and Ryan Winney; also
several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends may call upon the family Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Maynard D.
Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home,
with the Rev. Loren Gage, pastor of Kingsbury Wesleyan Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at Bacon Hill Cemetery, Bacon Hill, N.Y.
Friends are invited to join the family at Bob's house, 524 Lower Oak St.

Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
