Mrs. Harriet Carroll Allen, wife of the late Dr. Harlan P. Allen of Columbus, Ohio, died 
early Saturday morning after a short illness. She was a daughter of the late William R. 
Carroll of this village and spent her early life here until her marriage to Dr. Allen. Mrs. 
Allen possessed a charming personality and her large circle of friends received the 
news of her death with a distinct sense of personal loss. Her gentle dignity and keen 
interest in social activities made her a universal favorite and she will long be missed in 
this community. She leaves one brother, William R. Carroll, of this village, and one 
sister, Mrs. Julia Banker, of Cambridge, Mass. Funeral services were held Tuesday 
afternoon at two o'clock at the home of W. R. Carroll, conducted b y Rev. Francis K. 
Little, Rector of tile Church of the Messiah. The interment was in the Rhinebeck 
cemetery. The Rhinebeck Gazette, January 21, 1922.
