Thomas Canavan tree on ancestry
Thomas Edward Canavan, 73, of this city, died Wednesday at a local nursing home. 
He was a teacher in Massachusetts and New York. Born in Amherst, he graduated 
from Amherst High School in 1943 and Amherst College in 1949. He completed 
graduate studies in history at Harvard College and education at the University of 
Massachusetts-Amherst. He was a Navy pharmacist's mate third class in World War II. 
He leaves three brothers, John of Sturbridge, James of Holyoke and David of 
Culpeper, Va.; and a sister, Kathleen McKay of Hadley. The funeral will be this 
morning at Amherst Funeral Home and St. Brigid's Church, both in Amherst, with burial 
in the parish cemetery in Hadley. A calling hour will precede the Mass. Memorial 
contributions may be made to the church at PO Box 424, Amherst, MA 01004-0424.
