ELKTON — The funeral for Rembert Lee Hughes, 66, of 177 North St., Elkton will be 3 
p.m. Saturday at the Lindsey Harrisonhurg Funeral Home. The service will be 
conducted by the Rev. Raymond Edmonds, and burial will in Woodbine Cemetery.

Mr. Hughes died Wednesday morning at the University of Virginia Medical Center in 
Charlottesville, where he had been a patient since Sunday. He had been ill since 
1980.

He was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Mount Solon and was a son of the late James Edward 
Lee and Allie Messersmith Hughes.

He lived in Shenandoah from 1977 to 1985 and for the last 2 1/2 years had lived in 
Elkton. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a insurance 
representative before retiring.

On Oct. 21, 1940, he married the former Gwen Gardner, who survives.

Also surviving are four children; Marsha Samuelson of Elkton, Brenda Kirtley of 
Harrisonburg, Barbara Pence of Shenandoah and Robert G. Hughes of Houston; a 
sister, Mae Kathleen Grogg of Harrisonburg; a brother, Charles A. Hughes, of 
Harrisonburg; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
