STURBRIDGE - Richard C. Gardner, 76, of Shepard Road, a longtime tool and die 
maker, died Saturday in University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, after an 
illness. 

 He leaves his wife of 42 years, Bernice B. (Nazenic) Gardner; two sons, William Scott 
Gardner of Fiskdale and Richard B. Gardner of Brownfield, Maine; a daughter, Beverly 
A. Lamoine of Southbridge; a brother, Elmer B. Gardner; a sister, Norma Boniface, 
both of Sturbridge; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. 
He was born in Worcester, son of Elmer and Vera (Webber) Gardner, and lived most of 
his life in this area. He graduated from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge. He 
was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. 

 Mr. Gardner was a tool and die maker at Simsak Machine & Tool Co. in Southbridge 
for several years, retiring in 1989. He was previously a tool and die maker at Simonds 
Machine Co. in Southbridge, where he worked for 45 years. He was a member of the 
Sturbridge Senior Citizens and Leonide J. Lemire Post 6055, Veterans of Foreign 
Wars, in Southbridge. 

 A private graveside service will be held in North Cemetery. There are no calling 
hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart 
Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham 01701, or another charity. Belanger-Bullard 
Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
