obit of Elmer Baldwin Gardner
STURBRIDGE - Dorothy L. (Ritchie) Gardner, 69, of Gardner Avenue, formerly of 
Southbridge, died yesterday in the University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, 
after an illness. 

 She leaves her husband, Elmer "Tug" Gardner; a son, Bruce C. Gardner of Guilford, 
Vt.; a daughter, Louise A. Walker of Sturbridge; her stepmother, Florence Ritchie of 
Franklin, N.H.; three sisters, Evelyn Connors of Norton, Pearl Horigan of North 
Eastham and Joyce Craig of Franklin, N.H.; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. 
Mr. and Mrs. Gardner observed their 49th wedding anniversary last June. She was 
born in Billerica, daughter of George and Esther (Froom) Ritchie, and lived almost 50 
years in Southbridge and Sturbridge. 

 Mrs. Gardner was a real-estate broker for Town & Country Realty. She previously 
owned and operated the former Gardner Realty and Bouvier Realty, all in Sturbridge. 

 Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bullard's Funeral Home, 51 
Marcy St., Southbridge. Burial will be in North Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral 
home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The family requests that flowers be omitted. 
Memorial contributions may be made instead to the "Haven of Hope" Hospice, P.O. 
Box 662, Southbridge, 01550, or the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St., Worcester, 
01609.
