Avery Allen Vose, 91, of Duluth, formerly of Antioch, Illinois, died on Thursday, 
September 14, 2000 in Christ Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center. From 1993 to 
March 2000, he had lived at St. Ann's Residence in Duluty.
     Avery was born in Russell, Illinois to Estella and George Vose, graduated from 
Warren Township High School, and attended the University of Illinois. He devoted his 
entire career to the dairy industry, having served in many capacities in that industry. 
He was raised on a dairy farm, was employed as a fieldman from 1930 to 1937 for Pure 
Milk Association (PMA), the farm cooperative representing farmers supplying milk to 
the Chicago area market. From 1937 to 1940 he was employed as manager of a Kraft 
Dairy processing plant in Wittenberg, Wisconsin and managed a Pure Milk Association 
plant at Kansasville, Wisconsin from 1940 to 1942. In 1942 he joined his father to 
operate a dairy farm at Antioch, Illinois.
     Upon becoming a member of PMA as a farmer/producer he quickly became 
involved in leadership in that organization which represented over 5,000 producers for 
the Chicago market. He was elected to the board of directors, served as treasurer, 
and from 1958 to 1959 as president of the organization. In 1969 it merged with other 
cooperatives to form Associated Milk Producers, Inc. (AMPI.) He served as Treasurer 
of the Board of API from its formation in 1969 until he retired in 1974. In addition to his 
service to PMA and API he served on the board of the National Milk Producers 
Federation, as board member and chairman of the National Dairy Council, as board 
member and president of Federated Dairy Cooperatives, Central Milk Producers 
Cooperative, Associated Dairymen, Inc., and the Milk Foundation.
     He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Waukegan, Illinois.
     Avery was preceded in death by his son, George in 1949, his first wife Thelma in 
1954 and his second wife Helen in 1990.
     He is survived by his son David (Roberta) of Duluth, grandson Robert (Amy) of 
Minneapolis, granddaughter Elizabeth of St. Paul, and aunt, Estella Falkner of 
Libertyville, Illinois.
    Visitation will be Wednesday 1pm to 2pm with Service at 2pm Wednesday at 
MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Interment will be 
in Warren Cemetery, Gurnee.
