of Bellingham

Edwin B. Carlson, age 62 of Everson, passed away peacefully at his home on 
Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He was born on May 13, 1946 in Bremerton, WA. His parents 
were Carl and Margaret (Fowler) Carlson. Ed graduated from Meridian High School and 
Western Washington University. He served in both the US Navy Reserve and the US 
Army. Ed married Laurie Butenschoen on July 28, 1978. He will be remembered for his 
friendliness and openness, and he was a great joke teller. Ed was not afraid of death 
and maintained an inspirational attitude as he dealt with his terminal illness. He was 
involved with the Mount Baker Girls Youth Basketball Assoc. as both a secretary and 
a coach and was an Awana leader for 13 years. Ed never missed a sports game, a 
church or school program that his kids were involved in, and his greatest love in life 
besides his Lord was his wife and two children. He is survived by his wife, Laurie; 
children, Joshua Butenschoen Carlson of Ferndale and Katrina "Katie" Nicole Carlson 
of Everson; his aunt, Francis Fowler; mother and father-in-law, Ted Butenschoen and 
Doreen Butenschoen; brothers-in-law, Kent (Shelly) Butenschoen and Tom (Pamela) 
Butenschoen; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service 
will be held Monday, July 21 at Greenacres Memorial Park. A memorial service will 
follow at 3:30 PM in the Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home chapel. In lieu of flowers, 
donations may be made to the Carlson family to help defray medical expenses. You
