KING, CHARLES BANKS JR. IV, passed away at his home in Crescent City, FL. 
Charles was born February 2, 1927 to Kathryn Maule King and Charles B King III. His 
maternal grandfather, E.P. Maule, founded Maule Industries, which supplied much of 
the rock and concrete used in the early building history of South Florida. His paternal 
grandfather, Dr. Charles Banks King II, founded Elizabeth Music College for Women in 
Charlotte, NC; another relative was NC philanthropist George Washington Watts. For 
most of his life, Charles resided in the Miami area and summered in Blowing Rock, NC. 
During his early years, he worked part-time for his grandfather, E.P. Maule. In World 
War II he served in the US Naval Reserve as an airborne electronics technician. He 
received a B.A. in Economics from Principia College and attended the University of 
Miami Graduate School of Business Administration. After college, Charles returned to 
Maule Industries. Charles was a CPA in Miami for 38 years and was involved with 
many civic organizations. He served as Treasurer and Director of the YMCA of Greater 
Miami, Miami Beach Taxpayers Association, Kiwanis Club of Miami Shores, and 
Advocacy Foundation; as Director of the Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami; as 
President of the local Institute of Internal Auditors and the Civitan Club of North 
Miami; worked on committees of the Florida Institute of CPAs and was a member of the 
Committee of 100 of Miami Beach and the Navy League. An active member of the 
Christian Science church in Miami Beach for 45 years, he served as First Reader, 
Sunday School teacher, and Chairman of the Board and for several years conducted 
church services at Dade County correctional institutions and a Christian Science 
nursing home. Charles was an avid tennis player and clarinetist. He played in the 
University of Miami Symphony Orchestra, conducted the Principia College Band and 
was past Treasurer and Director of the Greater Miami Philharmonic Society. Surviving 
are his wife, Joy Riemer King; son, Capt. Charles King, USN (Ret.) (Kristine); daughter, 
Dorothy King Stowe (Gregory); stepdaughter, Nanette Riemer; grandsons Charles J.T. 
King, William Stowe and Spencer Stowe; granddaugher Erica King; sister, Helen 
Tellekamp Scholfield; aunt, Polly McCarthy; and other relatives. A private memorial 
service will be held. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to Bok
