email from Bonnie Yomnick 19 May 2011:
Duke crossed the country selling scissors, and pushing a hard cart he had made. He
worked as a painter and saved money to begin a photography business. He was Walt
Disney's personal photographer, and the official photographer of Disneyland. He was
the photographer for the "stars of Hollywood." He was a financial chartist, inventor,
and deep thinker.

In Memoriam
Last June, South Brentwood lost a respected citizen and founding father of SBHA.
Roger W. Davidson of Wellesley Avenue passed away at the age of 91. Together with
his wife, Cornelia, he helped organize SBHA in the early 1960’s to protect the
neighborhood from exploitation by oil interests. Without the couple’s efforts South
Brentwood might look very different today
21 May 2011 email from Bonnie Yomnick:
Roger Willis Davidson rarely discussed early life. Jillian has a copy of the Davidson
history; I do not have a copy nor trust my memory. I believe he was born out of
wedlock. His mother was housekeeper to his father. As a child, Duke had many
heart attacks, and polio. Most of his youth was house bound or bedridden. I was
given the impression that everyone in his world was ashamed of him and wanted to
keep him
hidden. The exception and joy of his youth was a cousin named Doris.
I can't remember her last name, but Duke and Corneila took her in to live with them
the last years of her life. She had a quick mind, and a great sense of humor. I forgot
to tell you that Duke had to wear custom made shoes, and that standing and walking
for long periods of time were painful for him. In addition to standing to take pictures,
he would take several hours of break before standing and processing the film at night
in the darkroom. What a remarkable inner man of strength he became....Now, you will
better realize the determination it took to walk from Mass. to Calif. Names for his
parents will have to come from the history of Davidson family.
