A memorial service is pending for David Bruce, who died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at 
age 81. 

 Mr. Bruce was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Berkeley, Calif. He earned bachelor's and 
master's degrees from Yale University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 
II. He married Elizabeth Knight in 1943; she died in 1989. He had lived in Portland 
since 1960. A research forester, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service until his 
retirement in 1978. He was a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. 

 Survivors include his sons, Robert A. of Salt Lake City, Utah, William W. of Santa Fe, 
N.M., and Charles D. of Portland; daughter, Donna B. Passey of Tampa, Fla.; eight 
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

 Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the World 
Forestry Center. Arrangements are by Autumn Burial & Cremation.
