lived in Portland, Mich, until age 9, then family moved to Portland, Mich. He attended 
Ann Arbor Univ, in 1852 started working for the Washtenae Whig in Ann Arbork (his 
brother was owner and editor). Then connected with Kenosha, Wis., Telegraph, and 
then printing business in Chicago. In 1869 he came to Champaign, purchased 
Champaign Union, was editor. Has represented his ward in city council.
