BOYLSTON - William E. Chase Jr., 74, of 19 Sewall St. died Monday in The Medical 
Center of Central Massachusetts - Hahnemann, Worcester. 

 His wife, Geraldine L. (Rayner) Chase, died in 1989. He leaves a son, William E. 
Chase III of West Boylston; two daughters, Suzanne C. Olsen and Diane Chase-
Condon, both of Boylston; a sister, Alice Hiller of West Boylston; nine grandchildren; 
two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son 
of William E. Chase Sr. and Ruth J.L. (Erickson) Chase, and had lived in Boylston 
since 1941.He graduated from North High School in Worcester in 1936, and was also 
a graduate of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Management. 

 Mr. Chase worked for United States Steel Corp. in Worcester from 1936 until his 
retirement as general manager in 1979. 

 Mr. Chase was a member of the Boylston Finance Committee and the town's Earth 
Removal Board. He was also a member of First Congregational Church of Boylston, a 
32nd Degree mason with the Boylston Lodge of Masons, a treasurer and member of 
the directors of the Central Massachusetts Safety Council, a member of the Shop 
Brook Association in Barre, a charter member of the Boylston Lions Club, a member of 
the Worcester County Horticultural Society, and had served as a member of the 
Research and Development Board of Tahanto Regional High School. He was with the 
International Executive Service Corp. in China in 1985, and was a past member of the 
Worcester Country Club, and Bancroft Human Services in Worcester. 

 A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in First Congregational Church of 
Boylston, 4 Church St. The Rev. Charles V. Ford will officiate. Burial will be at the 
convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers 
be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made instead to the William E. Chase Jr. 
Memorial Fund, care of the Central Massachusetts Safety Council, 186 West Boylston 
St., West Boylston 01583; or to the Boylston Ambulance Fund, care of Don Parker, 12 
Stockton St., Boylston 01505. The Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 
300 Lincoln St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
