Mary Anne ( née Littleton) Sistare, 78, of Brunswick, Maine, died Feb. 28 at home with 
her children at her bedside. 

 She was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Arthur and Jean ( née 
Newbourg) Littleton. She attended the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, graduating in 
1948. After graduation from Pembroke College, Brown University, in 1952, she married 
Sanford Rice "Sandy" Sistare. Mr. Sistare died nearly three months ago, on Dec. 22. 
During their marriage of 56 years the Sistares lived in Gladwyne, Boxford, Mass., and 
Concord, N.H., before retiring in 1989 to Brunswick. 

 While in Concord, Mrs. Sistare was a librarian at the Concord Public Library and later 
at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick. She was a literacy volunteer, served on 
the Pejepscot Historical Society board of directors and conducted tours for the Joshua 
Chamberlain House and Skolfield House. She was a member of First Parish Church of 
Brunswick. 

 She is survived by five children, Debra Holsapple and husband Jeffrey of Post Falls, 
Ind., Arthur Sistare and wife Sonya of Reno, Nev., Julia Helferich and husband Randy 
of Sheridan, Wyo., Willard Sistare, II and wife Paula of Simsbury, Conn., and Jonathan 
Sistare and wife Kathleen of Dublin, N.H.; two brothers, John Littleton and wife Cecily 
of Haverford and Frederick Littleton and wife Elinor of Chilmark, Mass.; and 11 
grandchildren. 

 She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Littleton Jr. 

 A memorial service for Mary and Sanford Sistare will be held on April 18 at the Old 
Chapel at St. Paul's School, in Concord, N.H., and on April 20 at 11 a.m. at First 
Parish Church, Brunswick, Maine.
