PEPPERELL -- Harold D. Bennett, 81, died at the Highlands in Fitchburg on Monday, 
June 25, 2007. He was born in Waltham on June 29,1925, son of the late Harold R. 
and Geraldine Bennett. He spent his early life in Waltham, where he attended the 
schools. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during WW II 
and Korea. During his service time he served on the USS Rehoboth, USS Waccamaw 
and on LST 114 as Radioman Second Class. 

 Prior to his retirement he was employed 40 years at the former James River Paper 
Company of Pepperell and was member of Local 534 of the Papermakers Union. A 
longtime resident of Pepperell who for 10 years lived with his son, Jerry, in Greenville, 
where he enjoyed the outdoors and feeding the birds while reading the paper. 

 He is survived by his two sons, Jerry Bennett of Greenville, N.H., and Barry and his 
wife, Therese, of Ashby; and two grandchildren, Megan J. Bennett and Ryan W. 
Bennett. He was also the father of the late Douglas and Tony Bennett. He is also 
survived by his stepmother, Charlotte Bennett of Fall River; one stepbrother, Barrie 
Gile of California; and two stepsisters, Marcia Gile and Rosemary Amadon. 

 Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29, at noon at the Hamilton-McGaffigan 
Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Route 113 ), Pepperell. A visitation will be held from 10 
a.m. to noon, prior to the service. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. 
 Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Pepperell.
