MARENGO – Catharine "Katie" Loomis, 99, of Marengo, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, 
at her home.

She was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Stillman Valley, to Louis and Susie (Hurd) Carmichael. 
On July 26, 1941, she married Bartlett Loomis, who died in 1988.

She graduated from Stillman Valley High School and Illinois State University in Normal. 
She taught school in Marengo for many years. She was a member of Marengo United 
Methodist Church. She was an accomplished piano and organ player. She played 
piano in a jazz band in college and the organ at weddings and funerals in Marengo. 
She loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She was loved and will be 
missed by all who knew her. The family gives special thanks to her caregiver, Cindy, 
and OSF Hospice.

She is survived by her children, Linda Lockinger of Belvidere and Nancy (Ted) Kane 
of Colfax, Wis.; her grandchildren, Tami Cauffman of Rolling Prairie, Ind., Mark (Toni) 
Osterberg of Green Bay, Wis., Matt and Marty (Laura) Osterberg of Colfax, Michele 
(Eric) Schlag of Kewaunee, Wis., and Christina Savage of Belvidere; and her great-
grandchildren, Mark Jr. and Kayla Osterberg of Green Bay, Wis.; Matt Jr. and 
Samantha Osterberg of Eau Claire, Wis., Jeremy Cauffman of Fremont, Calif., Jeff 
Cauffman of Laporte, Ind., Katelyn and Emily Savage of Belvidere, and one on the 
way.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Richard; a sister, 
Beatrice Carmichael; a brother, Ronald Carmichael; a grandson, Michael Osterberg; 
and her sons-in-law, Steven Lockinger and Larry Osterberg.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at Marengo-Union Funeral 
Home, 505 E. Grant Highway, Marengo. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 
27, at Marengo United Methodist Church, 119 E. Washington St., Marengo. The Rev. 
Keck Mowry will officiate. Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marengo United Methodist Church.
