Jack E. Hurd, 70, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, in his residence. Born 
Dec. 5, 1928, in Rockford, the son of Eugene W. and June H. Cherry-Hurd. He served 
in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1947. Married Carolyn E. Ross on Sept. 17, 1988, in 
Rockton. Employed as a truck driver by Advance Transportation until retiring in June 
1991. An avid bowler, he was involved in the Monday Morning Industrial League and 
Tuesday Morning Senior League at Park Lanes, Loves Park also Thursday Afternoon 
Senior Bowling League at Don Carter Lanes. He was an avid athlete and had 
participated in Senior Olympics and Masters Field and Track events since 1994. 
Survivors include wife, Carolyn sons, Jon S. (Cheryl) Hurd of Castro Alley, Calif., and 
Michael Hurd of Lebanon, Mo. daughter, Katherine Ross of Hillsboro, Ore. brothers, 
Steven, William (Joan), Marvin (Diane) and Eugene Hurd, all of Machesney Park 
sisters, Mary Nelson of Rockford, Lucile (Ken) Beeler of Missouri and Betty (Jerry) 
Burnett and Debbie Specht of Rockford stepdaughter, Theresa Carlson of Rockford 
stepsons, Mark (Maria) Larson and Aaron Larson of Rockford and Gordon (Sheila) 
Larson of South Carolina stepdaughters, Dawn Kudlacik of New Milford, Kathy Larson 
of Rock Falls, Elizabeth Larson of Montana and special friends, Ruth Filippi, Paul 
Harker and Richard Brown. Predeceased by parents and sister, Luella Barnes. 

 At his request, there will be no service. Perry Memorial Home & Crematory, 6825 
Weaver Road, Rockford, is assisting the family with Jack's wishes. 9-23-1
