Frederick Myers Morris, DD, STD, 92, of Bloomfield, Rector Emeritus of St. Thomas 
Episcopal Church in New York City, husband of the late Dorothy Q. (Hastings) Morris, 
died Friday (March 27, 1998) at The Duncaster in Bloomfield. He was born January 17, 
1906 in Los Angeles, CA, son of the late Lewis Gouverneur and Ruth (Myers) Morris, 
and had lived in Bloomfield for the past 12 years. A direct descendant of Lewis Morris, 
signer of the Declaration of Independence, Dr. Morris graduated from Hobart College 
in 1927 and from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1930. He received doctorates from 
both institutions as well as from the Seabury Western Theological Seminary and the 
Episcopal Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Dr. Morris began his ministr y in 1930 on 
an Indian Reservation at St. Michael's Mission to the Arapahoes in Ethete, Wyoming. 
In 1948 he became Dean of St. Mark's Cathedral in Minneapolis, Minnesota and 
served as Rector at St. Thomas Church in New York City from 1954 to 1972. Dr. 
Morris was also a homiletics (preaching) visiting lecturer from 1946-1954, and a series 
of his lectures were published titled ''Preach the Word of God''. He is survived by 
three daughters, Dorothy Curtiss of Lincoln, MA, Ruth Keitt of Gainesville, FL, and 
Elizabeth Lenerville; and 15 grandchildren. A memorial service will be today 2 p.m. in 
the Meeting Room at Duncaster in Bloomfield, with Rev. F. Murray Hastings and Rev. 
William Eakins co-officiating. There will be a private burial in All Saints Cemetery, 
Morris, NY. Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, has charge of 
arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community 
Fund of Duncaster, 40 Loeffler Rd., Bloomfield 06002.
