BRUCE, Duncan Jr. 
 Duncan Bruce, Jr., 85, of Matthew Drive, Brunswick, died on Monday (July 20, 1998) 
at his home. Born in Charleston, WV, on April 5, 1913, and formerly of Durham, NH, 
Concord, MA, Lake Nubanusit, NH, and Simsbury. Mr. Bruce was the son of Duncan 
and Catherine (Mollahan) Bruce. Mr. Bruce attended Charleston Public Schools. He 
was also one of the youngest Boy Scouts to attain the level of Eagle Scout. Mr. Bruce 
attended Phillips Academy of Andover, graduating Cum Laude in 1932. In 1936, Mr. 
Bruc e graduated with distinction from Yale University in New Haven. Mr. Bruce went 
on to receive an MBA in finance and accounting in 1940 from New York University in 
New York, NY and an Associates Degree in Forestry from The Thompson School at 
the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH in 1970. Besides his children, Mr. 
Bruce, a firm believer in the benefits of learning and education, is known to have 
supported several others in their pursuit of higher education. Mr. Bruce served his 
country as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army from 1942-1944. Mr. Bruce held positions in 
public accounting, management consulting (Booze Allen & Hamilton), and corporate 
management, culminating as V.P. Finance at ITEK Corporation, Lexington, MA. from 
1959 to 1969. Whil e in Concord, Mr. Bruce served as V.P. Corporate Giving for the 
United Way of Massachusetts. The years of 1970-1988 saw Mr. Bruce assume the 
dual postions of Treasurer and Director of Controlled Environment Corporation, 
Grantham, NH. Active with the So ciety for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests 
from 1970 until the present, Mr. Bruce served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees 
during a one million dollar fund raising campaign in the early 1970's and went on to 
become Chair Emeritus of the Societ y. While residing in Durham, Mr. Bruce served on 
the Zoning Board of Adjustment. In the 1940's and 1950's, Mr. Bruce enjoyed many 
summer days at the beach in Fenwick, CT. Mr. Bruce was an avid fisherman who in his 
thirties and forties enjoyed the purs uit of Land Locked Salmon on Lake 
Winnipesaukee, NH. Having had little success, he mastered the art of flyfishing which 
he practiced successfully with friends on the Atlantic salmon rivers of Iceland and 
New Brunswick, Canada. Mr. Bruce also enjoyed a ga me of golf and tennis with 
friends and family. He traveled extensively throughout the world, having visited New 
Zealand twice, Antartic, Europe and Central America. He enjoyed showing his slides 
and lecturing to groups about his travels. He is survive d by his wife and traveling 
companion of 58 years, Margaret, ''Maggie'' (Myers) Bruce; a daughter, Susan Bruce 
of Morgantown, WV; and a son and daughter-in-law, Duncan Bruce III and Barbara 
Bruce of Conway, MA. There will be a private service for imme diate family members in
