Larkspur — Merwyn Smith, 94, of Castle Rock and formerly of Longmont, CO, passed
away Monday, November 11, at Sky Ridge Hospital Lonetree, Colorado.
The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, at Creekside Bible
Church, 2180 S. I-25, Castle Rock, CO, with Pastor Jack Estep officiating. Burial will
follow Tuesday, November 18, at 1 p.m. at Foothills Gardens of Memory Cemetery,
Longmont Colorado, with Pastor Thomas O. Hovestol presiding. The cemetery is
located between Longmont and Berthoud approximately 2 miles north of Highway 66
on the West side of 287.

80104, is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Merwyn Smith, who always went by Merwyn, was born December 19, 1913, at
the family farm near De Smet, South Dakota, to Arch Duane and Minnie Smith. This
area was home to Merwyn until 1954 when he moved his family to Custer, South
Dakota, before moving to Longmont, Colorado, in 1958. In 1990, they moved to
Larkspur, Colo., where they lived for twelve years with of their son Wes and his wife
Kay. Merwyn had three brothers, Fay, Russell, and Lloyd and two sisters, Leila and
Alma.
He married Evelyn Ruth Brown March 28, 1937, at the family farm, living there before
moving to a neighboring farm where they spent the next 17 years.
Merwyn was a farmer in Eastern South Dakota and with his Cessna belonged to the
Flying Farmers Association, before moving to Custer, South Dakota, where he worked
for ATT. In Longmont, he was in the home construction/home remodeling business
and for a short time owned and built campers. He was a member of Calvary Church
and served a number of years as a deacon. Later he became a member of the First
Baptist Church (now Creekside Bible Church) in Castle Rock. He and Evelyn spent a
number of years in Arizona and Mexico working with the Wycliffe Translation Team.
Evelyn passed away May 21, 2003, and Merwyn lived his last years at Valley House
Assist Living in Castle Rock until the time of his death.
Survivors include Marlys (Rolland) Callon of Mannford Oklahoma; Wes (Kay) Smith of
Larkspur Colorado; and Dale (Sandra) Smith of Pine Colorado; grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and all siblings including spouses.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Calvary Church in Longmont or Creekside
Bible Church in Castle Rock.
