ELDRIDGE G. JONES Riggs Vice President Eldridge G. Jones, 76, retired vice 
president and branch manager of the Riggs National Bank at Seventh and I streets 
NW, died March 26 at Washington Adventist Hospital after a stroke. Mr. Jones, who 
lived in Hyattsville, was born in Wilmington, Del., and he moved to Washington as a 
child. He graduated from McKinley Tech High School and the American Institute of 
Banking. He began his career at Riggs as a messenger in 1933, and he retired in 
1975. Mr. Jones was a coin collector and a former president, secretary and treasurer 
of the Middle Atlantic Numismatic Association, a treasurer and secretary of the 
Washington Numismatic Society and treasurer and member of the board of governors 
of the American Numismatic Association. He was a member of several Masonic 
organizations and was a past grand high priest of the Royal Archmasons. He had been 
treasurer and member of the board of trustees of Ager Road United Methodist Church 
in Hyattsville and was a member of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington. 
For more than 50 years, Mr. Jones had organized class reunions of McKinley Tech, 
and he was president of Techites of the Twenties. Survivors include his wife of 50 
years, Mildred S. Jones of Hyattsville; two children, Ruth-Louise Hempel of Berwyn 
Heights and Ronald Eldridge Jones of Takoma Park, and two grandchildren.
