Gerald R. Kerins, 72, of 208 Wolcott Ave., a chemist at the Naval Underwater 
Systems Center from 1949 until 1976, died yesterday at Newport Hospital. He was the 
husband of Fay M. (Hosch) Kerins. 

 Born in Newport, he was a son of the late Patrick H. and Margaret K. (Sullivan) 
Kerins. 

 Mr. Kerins was a 1948 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. 

 He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the DAV. He was a 
member of the Dennis E. Collins Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Kerins-
Hogan Chapter of the DAV, and the National Association of Retired Federal 
Employees. He was a past member of the Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club, 
Middletown. 

 Besides his wife he leaves five sons, Maj. Brian R. Kerins of Honolulu, Christopher P. 
Kerins of Maspee, Mass., Patrick J. Kerins of Ruxton, Md., Matthew J. Kerins of 
Bozrah, Conn., and Michael A. Kerins of Portsmouth; a brother, William Kerins of 
Burlington, Mass.; and seven grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Henry J. 
Kerins, James C. Kerins and Marguerite Kerins Harrington. 

 The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the O'Neil-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 
Spring St., Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Mary's Chruch, Spring 
Street, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.
