SENEY James Seney, 71, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012 while on a fishing trip 
in Canada. He was born May 2, 1941 in Toledo, OH to George and Peg Seney. He 
graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1959 before joining the United States 
Marine Corps. Jim was well known for his thirty eight years of government service that 
included serving as Mayor for the City of Sylvania and working in various economic 
development roles for both the Voinovich and Taft administrations for the State of 
Ohio. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jim was extremely passionate 
about his hobbies and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Lakeside, 
Ohio. He was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoyed ice hockey, a good cigar, Ohio 
State Buckeye Football, tending to the garden, perfecting his grilling technique, and 
constantly seeking the perfect burger. But to Jim, his greatest achievement was being 
a loving husband to his wife of thirty-seven years Dawn, and a father to his six 
children. He received the utmost joy being involved with his children in their many 
activities as they grew into fine adults. He is survived by his wife, Dawn (Hootman) 
Seney; two siblings, George Seney (Carole), Margo Morrow (Jim); and six children, 
Meg Clark (Keith), Josh Seney (Tina), Todd, Matt (Christy), Jack, and Allison; and five 
grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael, Joseph, Patrick, and Emerson; faithful dog, Daisy; 
and many other loving relatives. Friends may visit Friday June 8, 2012 from 3-9 p.m. at 
REEB FUNERAL HOME, 5712 North Main Street in Sylvania. The memorial service will 
be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Toledo, 
2315 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be 
made to the Lakeside Chautauqua Association, 236 Walnut, Lakeside, OH 43440 or 
Sylvania Area Family Services, Inc., 5440 Marshall Road, Sylvania, OH 43560. Mr. 
Seney will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the
