Ballee, George MacDonald 2/16/1925 - 6/19/2015 Jackson George MacDonald
Ballee, 90, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2015 at
Trellis Gardens Assisted Living at Vista Grande Villa from metastasized prostate
cancer. Born in Chicago, Illinois to mother and father, Barbara Helen (Roy) Ballee and
Abraham Maloney Ballee, he lived a good portion of his life (the last 42 years) in
Jackson, Michigan. He served his country with honor in WWII as a member of the
Army-Air Force and was stationed in Guam repairing radios and blind landing radar
equipment. George was a passionate and devoted man, a friend to all and a
consummate gentleman at all times. He had two very different careers: a mechanical
engineer after completing his engineering degree from Bradley University where he
was president of the TKE Fraternity, and in the mid-70's he became a State Farm
Insurance Agent. Each career spanned well over 2 decades, but as an insurance
agent he received the most satisfaction because he built his business on helping
people. He did that with honesty, integrity and attention to detail. He remembered
names and family details of all his clients and always had a smile and, those who know
him well, a frequent "stale joke" for anyone who would dare to listen! George was
always there to help and support his friends and any one in need with projects, finding
a job, lending a listening ear or anything else they needed him for. George loved
working out and did so at the Jackson Y-Center on a regular basis until he was forced
to give that up due to the bone cancer. He played on the Michigan Senior Olympic
volleyball team until he was 84 years old and could boast of many gold medals. He
loved organic gardening, golfing, fishing and hunting and passed these passions down
to his children and grand-children. George is survived by his wife, his best friend and
his soul mate of 62 years to whom he was especially devoted, Barbara (Harrison)
Ballee. George was an extremely loving and doting father, grandfather and great-
grandfather. He was extremely proud of his daughter and son, Brooke Ballee-Stone
(Martie Stone) of Delton, Michigan and Brad Ballee (Kathy Reilly Ballee) of Austin,
Texas. He loved all of his grandchildren, Melissa (Bock) Henson (Chris Henson) of
Gallatin, Tennessee; Justin Bock (Lisa Bays Bock) of Sandusky, Michigan; Megan
Bock of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Reid Ballee and Tricia Ballee of Austin, Texas, but his
great-granddaughter, Emma Bock, was the newest "apple of his eye" and he always
looked forward to seeing and spending time with her. A memorial gathering will take
place on Saturday, June 27, at Vista Grande Villa in the Grande Room from 2:00 to
4:00 p.m. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers to please donate to the American
Cancer Society, Great Lakes Hospice or to the Children's Miracle Network in memory
of George Ballee. George always had a kind word and was willing to do a kind deed
for everyone, especially his family. He believed that there is only one race; the human
race. Affordable affordablememorialservices.com
