Rev. Roger L. McAbee

The Rev. Roger L. McAbee, age 67, of 1317 Black Bear Trail, Stevens Point, went to 
meet our Lord on Nov. 21, 2006, at his home. He had been ill for seven months with a 
brain tumor.

Pastor Roger was born Nov. 26, 1938, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Leon and Ercelle 
(Sullivan) McAbee. He was a graduate of Baltimore City College High School and 
received a B.A. from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. He graduated in 1965 from 
the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary (Trinity) in Columbus. He married Sue Ann (Maule) 
McAbee on Sept. 2, 1962, at Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, Ohio. He was ordained 
June 20, 1965, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Baltimore. Pastor Roger started 
his ministry to God’s people at Otter Creek Lutheran Church, Highland, and Fairview 
Lutheran Church, Avoca, Wis., from 1965-1969. He later served at Salem Lutheran 
Church, Wooster, Ohio from 1969-1973 and St. Paul Lutheran, Forrest, Ill., from 1973
-1975. He was the beloved chaplain to the residents and staff of Homme Home of 
Wittenberg from 1977- 2000. He helped establish the Wittenberg Senior Center, the 
Homme Foundation, and Homme Residential in Wausau. His health forced him to !
resign as visitation pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stevens Point. He served nine 
years on the Northcentral Technical College Board of Directors. He recently resigned 
as president of the Homme Foundation, and as a member of the Bethany Lutheran 
Home Board, Waupaca. He had also been active in the Wittenberg Lions Club and the 
Northern Gateway Chorus. He was a past commander and member of the Central 
Wisconsin Sail and Power Squadron. He enjoyed singing in the Trinity choir, and he 
faithfully attended the men’s Thursday Morning Bible Study at Trinity.

Besides his wife, Sue Ann, he is survived by: a daughter, Dawn McAbee, and her 
children, Justin and Austin; a son, Michael McAbee and his son, Abe. He was 
preceded in death by his: parents; a brother, Joseph McAbee.

A celebration of Pastor Roger’s life will be held Sunday, Nov. 26th, at 7 p.m. at Trinity 
Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with Bishop James Justman and Pastor Alan 
Schaffmeyer officiating. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. until the time of the service. 
Cremation will follow. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia, Ohio at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Trinity Lutheran 
Seminary, Columbus, Ohio, Trinity Lutheran Church, Stevens Point, the Homme Home 
of Wittenberg’s resident fund, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Pastor Roger lived by the words: “None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to 
himself. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, 
whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” Romans 14: 7-8
