ALVIS, Barbara C., 63, of Hopewell, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009. She is 
survived by her husband, Wilmore W. Alvis Sr.; two daughters, Joanna Akers and 
husband, Paul, of Stony Creek, and Theresa Fields of Glade Springs, Va.; son, 
Wilmore "Buddy" Alvis Jr. of Steubenville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Bobbijo Banes, 
Christopher Alvis, Cheyenne Alvis and Steven Hall; two brothers, Ed Courtright and 
wife, Dixie, of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Chuck Courtright Jr. of Iowa; and a number of 
nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, 
August 17, 2009, at High Hills Memorial Cemetery in Jarratt. In lieu of flowers, the 
family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest 
Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226. Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Virginia is in
