Luther Buxton, H. L. Buxton's father, is a physician and surgeon, was a
member of the New York legislature in 1853-4, and also represented
Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in the legislature of 1869-70. H. L. Buxton's
mother's maiden name was Sarah F. Wells, and the families were both of
English descent, but the grandfather Buxton fought for the freedom of
the colonies in the war of the revolution.
