Obituary
Mildred J. Thompson (nee Jordan), of Collingdale, Pennsylvania passed away on
Friday, September 30th at the remarkable age of 97. Born in Philadelphia, Mildred was
the daughter of the late Carrolene and William Jordan and sister to the late Elizabeth
(Russell) Teears.

Mildred was a real-life Rosie the Riveter, one of many women who went to work in a
factory making supplies for the defense industry during World War II. She married the
late Lawrence J. Thompson II, a bluejacket in the Navy in 1944. She was a devoted
mother to three sons, who she affectionately referred to as “My Three Sons,” and was
often seen on the sidelines cheering on her three favorite Collingdale Bulldog athletes.

Mildred worked as a secretary at Ashland Middle School, in Glenolden, for over 20
years. One of her favorite hobbies was traveling the world, visiting 50 different
countries in her lifetime, mostly in Europe. For one of her last big trips, Mildred
traveled to Egypt, where she rode a camel at the age of 86.

Mildred was a proud Mom Mom to 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3
great-great grandchildren. She loved spending time with family, especially when she
was hosting her monthly Pancake Dinner to keep her grandkids connected. She was
cherished by her sons and their wives, who she encouraged and supported through
good times and bad.

Mildred was a member of the Collingdale Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed playing
pinochle with friends. She was still playing cards while living in the nursing home and
was a fierce competitor who did not like to lose. Mildred was a strong and
independent woman with a kind heart and welcoming nature. Even though she
stubbornly insisted that she was 29 years old and holding until the day she died,
Mildred lived a very long, fulfilling life. She will be dearly missed by her family.

In addition to her parents, sister and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her
son Lawrence (Kathy) Thompson III and two grandchildren, Gigette and Antoinette
Rodia. Left to treasure her memory are her sons William (Sandee) Thompson and
Ronald (Debbie) Thompson, her daughter-in-law Kathy Thompson and her
grandchildren Kimberly Thompson, Lorraine (Bill) Stroup, Heather (Rev. Edward)
Mingle, Autumn (John) Mansor, Kyle (Kelly) Thompson, Jonathan (Megan) Caulder,
Ronald (Jennifer) Thompson Jr., 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great
grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10-11 AM, Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Cavanagh Family
Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood where a memorial service will be held at 11
AM.

Note: John and Autumn Mansor are members of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church
