Death: 18 Jun 1896 Serino, Italy
Cause of Death: stillborn

Notes
"birth questioned, as Pietro in America"
Serino, Italy, Birth Register, FHL microfilm 1660372 (record 103, research by Melanie
D. Holtz, CG)
birth rec has language that, as explained by Melanie, "denounce the birth and state
the civil official's belief tha the child was not the legitimate child of Pietro Rodia
because he was living and working in America for quite some time. However, in the
eyes of the law, the child would be considered his because the mother was married to
him at the time of the birth. These notations could be used as evidece later when it
came to inheritance." (email from Melanie D. Holtz, CG, 17 Nov 2014)
Serino, Italy, 1896 Birth Register, antenati.com
This is the language: "La dichiarante ha denunciata la nascita sudetta per avere
assistito al parto di Lucia Cirino, ed in luogo del marito della stessa, il quale non ha
potuto denunciarla per che trovasi in America." It translates as "The declarant
reported the aforementioned birth because she had witnessed the birth of Lucia Cirino,
and in place of her husband, who was unable to report it because he was in America."
There is nothing about denunciation and nothing about the official questioning the
birth. This appears to be the case in other instances where the birth is reported as
having been denounced (including those where it is clear that the husband could
have been in Serino at the time of conception).
