Karen DeGennaro Karen Coletta DeGennaro, Esq., 50, of Blue Bell died Tuesday, 
January 11, 2011, at her residence after a courageous two and a half year battle with 
lieomyosarcoma. Born May 27, 1960 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Alfred 
and the late Anita (Giannattasio) Coletta, and wife of Albert A. DeGennaro, Esq. Karen 
was a 1978 graduate of Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, a 1982 graduate of 
University of Delaware and a 1985 graduate of Delaware Law School. After law 
school, she clerked for the late President Judge of Pa. Superior Court, Vincent Cirillo. 
Thereafter she worked for 6 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Montgomery 
County where she served as Head of the Sex Crimes Unit. While Head of the Sex 
Crimes Unit, she was instrumental in developing a county wide investigative unit to 
handle sex crime investigations and prosecutions. She also successfully prosecuted 
many sexual offenders and provided training to police departments and social workers 
throughout Montgomery County. After leaving the DA's Office, she served as an 
Assistant County Solicitor for Montgomery Co. Office of Children and Youth where she 
worked for 15 years protecting children from abusive and neglectful homes. She also 
serviced as the Chairwoman of the original Montgomery County Commissioners 
Committee on Women and Families. She was also admitted to the US Supreme Court, 
the Pa. Supreme Court and was a member of the Pa. Bar Association and the 
Montgomery Bar Association. She was also a long-time committee member of the 
Montgomery County Republican Committee and a member of St. Helena's Catholic 
Church. In addition to her father and husband, she is survived by two children at 
home, Christopher A., a senior at Colgate Univ., Hamilton, NY; Katie E., a freshman at 
the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA; three sisters: Denise Neuschwander, of 
Conshohocken; Kimberly (Richard) Davino, of Plymouth Meeting; and Valerie (Charles) 
Robino, of Centreville, DE; sister-in-Law Regina (Dean) Miller, of Duncansville, PA; 
her Mother-in-law, Jeanette (Laratonda) DeGennaro, of Altoona, PA; and many aunts, 
uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. There will not be a viewing, but the family will 
be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, January 15 from 9 - 11 AM at St, 
Helena's Church, 1489 DeKalb Pike, Center Sq., PA 19422. Her funeral mass will 
follow at 11 AM. Entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests 
memorial contributions be made to St. Helena's Church at the above address. Funeral
