Vincent Olivo, 79, was avid advocate for Woodland Park

Passaic Valley Today (Little Falls, Totowa, NJ) - Thursday, December 8, 2011

WOODLAND PARK - Vincent Olivo, who passed away at the age of 79 on Nov. 23,
was a man dedicated to his community.

Olivo once told a reporter for Passaic Valley Today one of his favorite things was to
help children and seniors. It's something he did in his capacity as president of the
Camp Hope Commission.

Many knew him for his dedication to the borough.

"He was an avid advocate for the borough of Woodland Park, or what he called West
Paterson," said Mayor Pat Lepore. "He cared about the town and spoke his mind. He
was the consummate constituent - always caring, always involved. 'What can I do to
help?' was one of his favorite lines."

president, and trustee there, and was later member of the Exempt Fireman's
Association. Olivo also helped develop the Mutual Aid Association of Woodland Park,
Totowa, and Little Falls.

He sat on the Passaic County Planning Board. Olivo was a parishioner at Our Lady of
Pompeii Church and served on its finance board for more than 25 years. He was a
member and former president of Paterson UNICO, as well as the sewage authority
commissioner for Woodland Park and Totowa.

Olivo also served as treasurer of the Passaic County 200 Club, which helps the
children of fallen first responders. He was a member of the Woodland Park Democratic
Club, a member of the Paterson Diocesan school board, and a member of the Fathers'
Club at St. Bonaventure Church.

In June of 2010, the borough honored Olivo for his dedication to the community by
naming a street after him and reading a proclamation in his honor at a council meeting.

Olivo was a fixture at council meetings where he sat in the back row of the audience.

"He made it a point to be there and if he wasn't there, he watched it on TV and gave
you his opinion the next day," Lepore said.

Former Councilwoman Ruth Patterson worked with Olivo on Woodland Park
Democratic Club said he was dedicated to both Woodland Park and Passaic County.

"He always wanted to do things the right way," she said.

Mayor elect Keith Kazmark knew Olivo well as Olivo would call him frequently to offer
his advice.

"Vince is what you call a giver," Kazmark said. "He gave his all to help a group,
whether it was fundraising or coordinating events. It's going to be a big loss to our
town."
