Obituary for Evelyn Christine Rodia
Evelyn Christine Rodia Evelyn Christine Rodia, of Havre de Grace, passed away on 
Tuesday, June 2, 2009. She was 90. She was born in Darlington, Maryland to the late 
Randolph Laye and the late Lenora Fadley Laye. She was the devoted wife of the late 
Stanley Francis Rodia. She was the loving mother of Ernest J. and Claire Rodia of 
Loudon, TN, Stanley Rodia, Jr., of Centreville, VA, Angelina and Anthony Barrett of 
Fredericksburg, VA, and Rosalie Mergler of Bel Air, MD. She was the adored 
grandmother of Steven Rodia, Debra Rodia, Evelyn Peel, Bryan Mitchell Rodia, 
Nanette Idoni, Christopher Yingling, Francis L. Mergler, III, Mathew Mergler, and 
Karen Finkelstein. She also had 14 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother 
Donald Laye of Havre de Grace, and was preceded in death by her other siblings, 
Elery Laye, Edward Laye, Frank "Wink" Laye, Randolph "Roy" Laye, John "Jack" 
Laye, George Laye, Sadie Storath, Dorothy "Diddie" Hergenrother, and Doris Babec. 
Mrs. Rodia was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was also a 
member of the Havre de Grace Elks Lodge and was President of Elks Ladies Club from 
1985-86. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite pastimes 
were her morning coffee klatsch, listening to her favorite music, cooking for family and 
enjoying her beautiful flowers. A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 9:00 
AM to 11:00 AM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre 
de Grace, MD 21078. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:30 AM 
at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Father 
William J. O'Brien will officiate. Interment will be held at Mt. Erin Cemetery. Pallbearers 
will be Mathew Mergler, Steven Rodia, Mitchell Rodia, Francis L. Mergler, III, Chris 
Yingling, and Michael Mergler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernest J. Rodia, Stanley 
Rodia, Jr., Donald Laye, Jr., and Randolph Laye. Contributions may be made in her 
memory to American Heart Association, 415 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD, 
21201.
