he intended to enter a Franciscan seminary but he and his sister Anna were taken out
of high school and sent to their mother's sister in Philadelphia
He was drafted, wanted to join the Navy, his mother persuaded the Navy to reject him,
so because he was angry with his mother for making him leave school and not go into
seminary, he joined the Navy. On discharge he attended St. Joseph's University,
earned a master's degree in New Mexico, and started a Ph.D. at the University of
North Texas. He didn't complete it because of issues with his first wife (though he
completed the Ph.D. years later at another school). He then moved to Portland, Ore.
He worked for the Job Corps, which moved from place to place during his career.
After he married his second wife he went to St. Louis when relocated by Job Corps.
Later he was transferred to Shreveport, La.
After marrying Donna they moved to several places including the Virgin Islands where
both taught in an Episcopal school. They ended up in Florida where Donna's mother
lived.
