Hugh Malbank, founder of Combermere Abbey, according to the Visitation of Cheshire. 
Accounted for 7 marks in co. Bedford for a plea of duel between him and Robert 
Pantulf, 1130. [John Ravilious]

Hugh is not mentioned in Turton's pedigree of Philippe Malbank, just 3 generations of 
William preceding Philippe, who married Thomas Basset. On the other hand, John 
Ravilious mentions Hugh, but only 2 generations of William (one as father, and the 
other as son of Hugh). The dates to me indicate that Hugh & 3 generations of William 
are all probably ancestors of Philippe.
