Note: Justice of the King's Court in March 1189/90 and thereafter; also acted as
Justice of the Jews until the end of King John's reign. Northampton Castle was
entrusted to him as a faithful subject of King Richard in 1191, and a year later was
pardoned the scutage of Wales after personal service there as a knight of Simon de
Wahull. He was Sheriff of Essex and Herts in 1194; and of Northants 1194. King John
apparently doubted his loyalty in 1215, but he apparently convinced the King
otherwise as his lands were restored by December 1215 (Complete Peerage, p. 312).
