HAYE (HAIA), La Haye-du-Puits: Manche, arr. Coutances.
In 1123 Robert de Haia issued a charter, mentioning Muriel his wife and Richard and
Ralf his sons, and recording his earlier gift of the church of Boxgrove, Sussex, to the
abbey of Lessay. Later Richard de Haia gave the church of St. John of Haye to the
same abbey. The church of La Haye-du-Puits is dedicated in honour of St. John the
Evangelist, and the abbot of Lessay was patron. The priory of Boxgrove founded by
Robert de Haia was a cell of Lessay. [The Origins of Some Anglo-Norman Families,
