I originally had Maud's birth year as "abt 1109" and her father's birth year as "1087",
based on information that I got out of some lines in World Connect. I received the
following Postem from World Connect:
Name: james wall
Email: jewall AT students.wisc.edu
John Cannon & Anne HARGREAVES "The Kings and Queens of Britain" Oxford
University Press 2001. pg. 184.
"Though Robert Curthose was safe in custody, his late and unexpected marriage had
produced a son (c. 1102), William Clito (Prince). As he grew up, ambitious neighbors in
France took up his cause and promised him Normandy. Henry I defeated this
opponents at Bremule in 1119, though the issue was not resolved until 1128 when
William (Clito) was killed in a siege"
The birthdate of 1087 you use for William Clito cannot be correct therefore his
daughter was not born when her father was 6 years old. Are you sure she is William
Clito's daughter?
Longespic is fairly close to Longspee. Perhaps a transcription error?

Following is my reply:
James,
Sorry for the long time it took to respond. I spent several weeks in Ireland this
summer, and it has taken me a couple of weeks to catch up on everything since I got
back.
You are absolutely right about his birth year (Encyclopaedia Britannica has c 1101).
This is one of those that I had not bothered to look up. William Clito is not in any of
my standard genealogical source books. I have looked at some of the other people on
World Connect and notice that some have his daughter b. 1118, which still makes it
compatible. Without any published sources, there is certainly no "proof" that she even
existed, but, perhaps merely because I am being stubborn, I will keep her with the new
dates.
I will put your postem in my notes, with my response, so that her "iffy" status will be
documented.

Following is added by Curt Hofemann, which at least adds some documentation to the
very questionable marriage, indicating where the original source was:
Her marriage to Hugh de Montfort has been debated on Gen-Medieval & from memory
(I have not yet found the specific messages to give you the url's) the marriage was
found to be non-existant. One (excellent) ref that briefly discusses the purported
marriage is The Dictionary of National Biography which indicates the source of the
marriage is the "half mythical history of Wigmore Priory" in the Monasticon. DNB calls
the account of the marriage "fabulous".
