NOTE: The following sources for Gilbert (and also Gilbert's father Gilbert) give 
numerous manors which were granted to the elder Gilbert. The Complete Peerage 
names Gilbert Hansard "of Evenwood & Hurworth-on-Tees, co. Durham", yet I cannot 
find any references to Hansard in the VCH Durham article on Hurworth (and I can't 
find any articles on Evenwood). So I am mystified.

Welbury, Yorkshire North Riding:

In 1199 King John confirmed to Gilbert son of Gilbert Hansard lands which his father 
had acquired from William Ingram in Welbury. These lands were probably situated at 
INGRAM (Angerum, Angram, xiii-xvii cent.), where Gilbert Hansard had 2 carucates or 
the vill. One of these carucates he gave to Rievaulx Abbey, apparently following this 
by a grant of the whole vill at a later date. Possibly the second carucate was held by 
tenants, for Gilbert son of John Hansard remitted to the monks the 27d. rent they were 
wont to pay for 1½ carucates in Angram and 3d. from half a carucate which Master 
Ralph de Uckerby had held.

Manor of Embleton, Sedgefield, Durham:

In 1199 King John confirmed EMBLETON (Elmedon to xvii cent.) to Gilbert de 
Hansard, whose father Gilbert had held it by grant of John de Lacy, Constable of 
Chester. The descendants of John de Lacy, afterwards Earls of Lincoln, retained an 
overlordship. In 1290 Gilbert Hansard granted to his son Robert the manor of Newton 
Hansard with the vills of Embleton and Swainston.

Manor of Landmoth, Northallerton, Yorkshire North Riding:

LANDMOTH (Landemot, xi, xiii cent.) was in 1086 a berewick of Northallerton. Three 
carucates here passed with that manor (q.v.) to the Bishops of Durham, of whom the 
vill was subsequently held.

The first recorded tenant was William de Vescy, who granted the vill to Gilbert 
Hansard, a gift confirmed by King John to Gilbert son of Gilbert in 1199. To the latter 
Gilbert de Torigni released his claim on 3 carucates in Landmoth in 1208. The manor 
continued to be held of the Hansard family, who were lords of the manor of High 
Worsall, throughout the 13th century. This mesne lordship is not subsequently 
mentioned.
