He [Nicholas de Meinill] married Christine (k). He died before 27 May 1299. On 21 July 
the escheator was ordered to deliver to Christine his widow the manor of Castle 
Leavington. The King granted her marriage, 13 September, to Saer de Huntingfield, 
and on 16 November, with the heir's consent, she was assigned as dower the manor 
of Eston and lands in Potto (parish of Whorlton). In 1310, as widow of Nicholas de 
Meinill of Whorlton, she was granted by the Archbishop of York the marriage of 
Richard, son and heir of Sir Robert de Furneaux. She was dead before 22 January

(k) Charges of attempting to poison her husband and of adultery with Masters William 
de Greenfield (later Archbishop of York) and Walter de Hamerton were made against 
her. Of these she purged herself before Archbishop Romeyn on 7 Dec 1290. The 
matter appears to have been referred to Rome, as on 9 Dec she appointed Master Guy 
de Novaria as her proctor at the Roman court. From the proceedings in the case 
between her and her husband in the ecclesiastical court it appeared, as Archbishop 
Romeyn wrote to the King on 29 Jan 1292/3, that although it had been said she had 
deserted her husband and was leading a sinful life, actually he had driven her from his 
home and refused to maintain her, that she was leading a moral life, and that his 
cruelty and not her fault had been the cause of separation.
