there is a familysearch record showing him as son of Thomas Gray and Katharine 
Myles, going back a few generations, but it lacks the specifc info on Margaret Anis 
that others have so I doubt its accuracy. And in fact an ancestral file shows a record 
of the family of  Thomas Gray and Katharine Myles and their son Thomas Gray b 1595, 
dies in 1627 in England
Thomas Gray, after Margaret died, married Rebecca and then someone else name not 
known. There also shows a Margaret as a spouse, separate from Annis, so Annis may 
be Annis Valentine and not Margaret Valentine
AND.... Thomas Gray who md Margaret Anis ALSO married a Rebecca (Rebecca 
HUTTON) but she's not the mother of Francis. BUT "Tidewater Virginia Families" says 
someone figured out that she IS his mother.
Yet another record show more info on him
came to Virginia in 1608, possibly as a stowaway.
