Note: STEPHEN DE MEINILL the First, son and heir, was accorded participation in
the benefits resulting from his father's grant to St. Mary's Abbey, York, circa 1100-06,
and witnessed a charter earlier than circa 1119. As a neighbour of Walter Espec he
witnessed the latter's charter to Rievaulx Abbey. In 1143 he was instrumental in
negotiating a truce between the Bishop of Durham and William Cumin. He granted the
place called Scarth in Whorlton for the service of God. He married Sibil, probably a
daughter of Ansketil DE BULMER. He was living in 1145. [Complete Peerage VIII:620,
