Luitfrid II of Sundgau is the son of Luitfrid I of Alsace (700-767), Duke of Alsace, and 
Hiltrudis.

When King Pepin the Brief disgraced the members of the Etichonides, Alsace was 
divided into two counties, the Nordgau and the Sundgau: Luitfrid was charged with 
the latter.

Luitfrid II of Sundgau marries Hiltrude, whose identity is the subject of discussion: she 
is sometimes presented as the daughter of Otto III1, but for a certain number of 
historians and genealogists she is Hiltrude de Wormsgau, perhaps Daughter of Count 
Robert VI and Chiltrude of Bavaria, granddaughter of Charles Martel.

Luitfrid II of Sundgau, descended from Duke Etichon-Adalric of Alsace, possesses 
lands on the side of Petit Rombach at Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines, later called Belmont 
and Echéry. This count of the Sundgau is recalled in the diploma of Lothaire the 
young for the convent of Eschery, like father of Count Leutard and of his brother 
Hugues. He died about the year 8022.

Luisfrid II of Alsace of Hiltrude de Wormsgau have four children:

The Lordship of Alemania (776-800)
Leuthard of Sundgau (782-830), count, husband of Grimilde, born of the royal blood of 
Burgundy. He is not the father of Girart de Roussillon, who is the son of Leuthard I, 
Count of Fezensac, then Count of Paris (816) and a member of the Girardides family. 
But he is the father of Otbert, bishop of Strasbourg.
Basilie (790-871), Abbess of the Saint-Etienne abbey from 845 to 871. In a diploma of 
Emperor Lothaire II concerning this abbey, it is called by a manifest interpolation 
discovered by Schöpflin. The Emperor calls her a relative.
