BLYTHBOROUGH SUFFOLK
The manor of Blythborough, which was part of the crown lands in 1086, was granted 
to William fitz Walter for the service of 1 knight's fee in Mich. 1157-Mich. 1158. 
William, who took the name de Chesney from his mother, d. 1174 leaving his daughter 
and heir MARGARET.

MARGARET m., firstly, Hugh de Cressy who held William de Chesney's lands in 1174. 
Hugh d. Mich. 1188-Mich. 1189.[4.16] Margaret d. 1230 and in Jan 1231 Roger de 
Cressy her s. and h. did homage. The king ordered that an inquiry be held to find 
whether Margaret held her lands of the king in chief 'tamquam de corona et nomine 
baronie an ut de escaerta;.[5.16] There is no definite evidence of the relief which 
Roger paid. Roger d. 1246, his son Hugh was called upon to pay £100 relief. Hugh 
was granted respite of payment for an inquiry to find if he held a whole barony. The 
result of the inquiry is not known but the pipe roll for Mich. 1249 records the payment 
of £100 relief. Furthermore, when Hugh d. 1263 his br. and h. Stephen was charged 
£100 relief. Stephen d.s.p. 1263. His heir was descended from his grandmother 
MARGARET d. 1230.

MARGARET m., secondly ante 1212, Robert fitz Roger d. 1224 of Whalton, q.v. John 
fitz Robert, her heir by this marriage, d. 1241 leaving Roger d. 1249. Robert fitz 
Roger, s. and h., was the heir of Stephen de Cressy in 1263. He d. 1310 being 
followed by his son John fitz Robert d. 1332, ante 23 Jan.

Ferrer's Manor, West Rudham, Norfolk:

This lordship was in the family of de Caineto, or Cheney, and came by the marriage of 
Margaret, daughter and heir of William Cheney, son of Ralph de Caineto, to Hugh de 
Cressi, a Norman, in the reign of Henry II. whose son, Roger de Cressi, married Isabel, 
daughter and coheir of of Hubert de Rie, and widow of Jeff. de Chester. This Roger 
being with the barons, in arms against King John, his lands were seized, and given to 
Robert de Ferrers; and Henry de Ferrers was found to hold the fourth part of a fee in 
the reign of Henry the II. Sir Guy de Ferrariis was living in the 15th of Edward I. as 
was Edmund de Ferrers, of West-Rudham, in the 31st of the said reign, and John de 
Ferrers in the reign of Edward II. and one of the same name occurs in the 20th of 
Edward III. [An Essay towards a Topographical History of the County of Norfolk:
