In Historical, Genealogical and Biographical Account of the Joliffe Family of Virginia,
6152 to 1893, it says Anna was 17 when she married, dtr of Henry Steel or Stahl, a
native of Germany and his wife Anna Margaret, b 22 Feb 1731, who was the dtr of
Rudolph and Anna Ebright, natives of the canton of Zurich, who removed to Berne,
where they had a large family and then about 1740 to America. They were robbed of
all they had on the wharf at Philadelphia when they landed. Thus left poor, they
settled at Germantown. They died the same day, aged respectively 74 and 73, and
were buried in the same grave. Their dtr Anna Margaret, who married Henry Steel in
1754, and had three children, married, as second husband, Edward Oxley, and lived to
be 94 years old. surviving all her children. She was buried at 17th and Arch Streets.
Her dtr Anna Julianna Fitz Randolph, after the birth of several children, joined the
Society of Friends, of whom her husband was an esteemed elder for many years, and
sat at the head of North Meeting in Philadelphia. It then lists the children and their
marriages, which I have somewhere. The Joliffes link in through a dtr of Oliver
Randolph Parry.
