WILLIAM MARMION, son and heir. In 1243 he was under age and in the custody of
William de Cauntelo. On 30 April 1251 he quitclaimed to the Prioress of Fosse the
advowson of the church of Willingham, co. Lincoln. On 4 January 1251/2 he was
granted respite from knighthood until 2 February 1252/3, and then until the
knighthood of Prince Edward. On 26 April 1254, with Lorette his wife, he
acknowledged that land in Messingham was the right of the Prior of Thornholme as
land which the Prior's predecessors had in frankalmoign of the grant of Simon de
Messingham. In 1259 he was among those who crossed with the King for service in
France. He took the side of the Barons against Henry III. As a supporter of Simon de
Montfort he was summoned to Parliament 24 December 1264, by writ directed Willelmo
Marmyun. Between 10 January 1265/6 and 29 October 1266 safe conducts were
issued for William Marmion coming to the King's court, to stand his trial, and make his
peace. He was among the "disinherited" who were admitted into the King's peace 1
July 1267 and pardoned for their trespasses during the late disturbance. In a deed of
1268 he appears as paying £12 yearly to Hugh de Mortimer for lands held of the latter
in Winton and Berwick, Sussex. In 1275 Theobald de Trickingham held five and a half
bovates in Trickingham (Threckingham, co. Lincoln) by the service of 1/10 knight's
fee of Sir William Marmion, who held in chief.
He married, before Whitsuntide 1248, Lorette, daughter of Royce, daughter and heir
of Foubert DE DOUVRES. He was apparently dead by I 276, in his mother's lifetime.
