Notes
Serino, Italy, Birth Register, FHL microfilm 1660372 (Part II, record 19, research by
and translation assistance from Melanie D. Holtz, CG) ("On 29 November 1897, a
document was received by the Serino town hall from the town hall of Solofra and
transcribed into Serino's birth register. On 24 November 1897, in the Solofra town hall
there appeared Alessandro Rodia. Alessandro was thirty years old, a landowner, and
resident of Solofra. He declared that the male child he was presenting was born on
the 22nd of the current month at 5:10 a.m. in his home in Pieve [?] Santangelo, house
number not given. The child's mother was Mrs. Alfonsina Molinari, age thirty-six, a
gentle woman, and the wife of the declarant with whom she resides. The child was
given the name Antonio. The witnesses were Michele Cirino, age sixty-three, and a
farm laborer as well as Roccantonio Gilbert [?], age sixty-one, and a saddle maker
[occupation hard to read]. Both of the witnesses lived in Solofra. Alessandro Rodia
declared that he was a native of Serino and asked that the record of his son's birth be
sent to Serino. Alessandro was not literate. Two civil officials verified the accuracy of
the transcription."
Note that the mother's notation as a "gentle woman" shows that she was likely a
member of a wealthy and/or noble family.")
