"noctis obscure tempore, ad lucum olearce iter agebat, et proprie circa horam
decimam, adiunctis sibi aliquot sociis, priore margina siue ripa profundissime vallis

angustiore fallente vestigie in imum labitur per spatium palmorum centuni; in sapsu nil
aliud proferens, nisi: Virgo Montis Carmeli salva me; et accurrentes Sociis quo dilapsus
permansit in eodem discrimine vite tandem die predicta." ("In the dark of night, he was
traveling to the grove of olive trees, and precisely around the tenth hour, with some
companions joining him, he successfully crossed the first edge or bank of the deepest
valley (commonly called il Matrunolo) and as if reaching the top of another cliff, the
narrower path led him down to the bottom for a distance of a hundred palms; in the
sand, uttering nothing else but: Virgin of Mount Carmel, save me; and the companions,
running to where he had fallen, and others hastening their journey, ran to the parish
priest there, SS. Gaspare Rocco, who found him brought down to the plain, having
nothing to live for except his breath, and the benefit of absolution was granted to him
on condition that he was unable to return without showing any signs of pain or
repentance; He was taken to the House in the village of San Biagio, and for almost
three days he remained in the same critical condition until the day before.")
