After a long and full life, Velma Thail Ottley Dastrup was released from her sojourn on 
earth in the early morning hours of April 25, 2007. Thail was born in Delta, Utah, July 
15, 1926 to Herbert John and Velma Curtis Ottley, the youngest of three children. She 
was raised in Aurora, Utah and graduated from North Sevier High School in Salina.

Thail married her high school sweetheart, Ross B Dastrup, in the Salt Lake Temple on 
February 6, 1945. He passed away December 23, 1996. Together, they raised six 
children: Carolyn (Dennis) Sampson, Neal (Brenda), Max (Claudia), Dan (Teresa), 
Janice Goltz and Jeffrey (Lauren). She has a growing posterity of 34 grandchildren 
and 53 great grandchildren. In every way, she fulfilled her calling as a wonderful wife, 
mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 
and her sister, Phyllis Boren. She is survived by all of her children and her brother, 
Quentin Ottley.

Thail was a member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many capacities 
throughout her life. She was deeply loved and cherished by her family, friends, 
neighbors and ward members wherever she lived.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday April 30th at the Lindon 19th Ward 
Chapel, 731 East Center, Lindon. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. 
at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem and also Monday from 
9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the many caring doctors, nurses and other professional 
care givers who were so thoughtful and helpful to our mother throughout her time of 
need, as well as an appreciation to her many wonderful friends, neighbors and ward 
members who cared for her through the years. A special thanks is given to the 
dedicated staff at the Heritage Convalescent Center.
