Dorothy Jean “Dot” Whitaker, 83, of Parke Drive, Richmond, passed away Tuesday,
August 30, 2011, at the U. K. Medical Center in Lexington.
She was born on October 11, 1927 in Somerset, Kentucky, to Rufus Deuel “R.D.” and
Daisy Maule White, both of whom preceded her in death. Dot had worked as the
payroll supervisor for Begley/ Concord Custom Dry Cleaners.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Richmond,
where she had served as Deacon, Board Member and a member of the Disciples
Women’s Ministry Group 6. She was active with the First Christian Church quilting
group, the Altrusa Club and various Bridge Clubs. Dot was also an active member of
Dot is survived by her loving husband, Henderson Whitaker, Jr.; one daughter,
Patricia Smith, and husband, Stephen, of St. Louis; one granddaughter, Stephanie
Byrd, and husband, Michael, of St. Louis; and a brother, Lawrence White, and wife,
Loretta, of Lexington and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Leonora Whicker.
Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011, at the First
Christian Church, with Dr. Betsy Goehrig officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond
Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, with the
Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. which all are invited to attend.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Smith, Michael Byrd, Larry White, Dean Whitaker, Jr., H.
D. Whitaker, Jr. and Dale Carrier. Members of the Turley Bible Class will serve as
honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are suggested to the First Christian Church
Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
