Esther was the daughter of "CR", Charles Richard Edwards and Elma Kyger Edwards.
She had two older sisters, Florence Edwards Walser and Josephine Edwards. Esther
and Josephine moved from Lebanon, MO where they grew up to Seattle, WA. After
their mother died, their father followed them to the Seattle area where he passed
away. Esther met Elmer Nelson and after a time they were married on Dec. 27, 1952
when she was 47. They had no children. Elmer worked at PSNS. He passed away May
1962, just short of their 10th wedding anniversary.

She met her great neice, Libby, in May 1967, about a month after Libby & John were
married. They became very close, Libby being like a daughter she was never able to
have. They made a point of visiting with each other on the phone or in person almost
every other day. They spent Christmas together and that year the snow was terrible
but Libby & John were able to make it to her house every weekend.

One evening Libby received a call from some friends of Esthers saying that she was
very sick and she needed to be with her and John so they brought Esther to their
house and put her in their bed (they only had one). She was so sick that through the
week they tried to get her Church of Christ, Sciencest, to come see her but he
wouldn't saying he would pray for her from Seattle and she should be healed by the
evening. Evening would come and she was as bad or worse. Libby & John finally
decided to call an ambulance to take her to the hospital, even though they don't
believe in hospitals, because she was so weak she couldn't sip water through a straw.
The doctors had a diagnosis within hours of Acute Leukemia. They gave her a blood
transfusion which made her stronger but she slipped into a coma the next evening and
passed away the day before Libby's 1st wedding anniversary. Esther is sorely missed
but has had a joyous reunion with her husband and parents which preceded her in
death.

Mrs. Esther E. Nelson, 62, Seabeck Highway, Rte. 1, Box 1418, died Saturday in
Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born January 6, 1907, at Okmulgy, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Nelson had been a resident of Kitsap County for the past 10 years. She was
employed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for about five years. She was a member
of the Silverdale Garden Club and the Bremerton First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Edward J. Walser, Springfield, MO. a neice, Mrs. John
(Libby)Eskelson, Bremerton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at
the Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Mr.
Carlton Smith, reader for the Church of Christ's Scientists, officiating.
